Speaking with the Rocky Mountain Tri Club
Tony spent Tuesday evening at the Retul Studios Denver speaking with the Rocky Mountain Tri Club. Tony shared the stage with Retul master fitter, Toddy Carver. The topic for the evening was about embracing the lifestyle of being an endurance sports athlete. That in a time of information overload, maybe the best training method is just getting out the door and going…sans hrm, sans power meter, sans ipod…just get out the door and enjoy the fact that your out there. Yes, it’s that easy – and Tim DeBoom has two Ironman World Titles to his name based on that training philosophy.

Tony, Glad you and your brother embrace the “get out and do it” sans technology! I have been running near Rice University in Houston Texas while my daughter undergoes treatment at the medical center. I can’t tell you how many people I see these days running and looking at their phones, running into trees, other runners, and tripping over dogs while adjusting headphones, and simply not enjoying the freedom of just…running.
I find that if I can leave the blackberry, cell phone, ipod, and just get out the door and enjoy the training…that I have a better workout and enjoy it more. However, I do have my GPS…can’t go back to not knowing my actual distance/pace/heart rate!
